Variable Ballast Control Systems

RADS VARIABLE BALLAST SYSTEM

RADS variable ballast systems allow an AUV to maintain vehicle buoyancy and trim to suit varying depths and salinity even whilst delivering a payload. They also allow an AUV to hover at a specified depth with minimal or zero energy consumption and can provide propulsion.

BALANCED PISTON PUMPS

RADS balanced piston pumps can pump fluids into the high-pressure environment experienced at ocean depth. This high flow piston pump coupled with RADS pressure tolerant motors can provide a solution for buoyancy changes in vehicles operating at depth.

RADS ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS

RADS provides complete scalable energy systems for vehicles operating in remote areas and at extreme ocean depths. Pressure tolerant designs mean our systems can be located externally with no need for heavy pressure vessels or penetrators, thereby reducing cost, vehicle size and mass. A communications interface provides monitoring and control and when connected with other RADS devices (such as motors) forms a complete vehicle control network.

THRUSTER MOTORS

RADS full ocean depth capable 2.4kW thruster motor has an integral pressure tolerant driver. This negates the need for heavy pressure vessels and penetrators (required when using traditional drivers). It also simplifies vehicle wiring and provides greater vehicle efficiency. It is designed to work in conjunction with RADS scalable energy systems. Its communication interface makes it suitable for use on underwater vehicles.

PRESSURE TOLERANT BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS

RADS full ocean depth capable motors are available in two sizes, 600W and 2.4kW. Like RADS thruster motors they have integral pressure tolerant drivers and communication interfaces. As with other RADS devices, these features negate the need for heavy pressure vessels and penetrators thereby simplifying vehicle design and construction. The motors can be coupled to RADS pumps, gearboxes or servo actuators to provide optimal ballast, propulsion or actuator controls.

RADS PRESSURE VESSELS

RADS pressure vessels are made from a range of materials. They can house vehicle electronics and other payloads or provide buoyancy chambers for subsea applications. Designs can be scaled for various sizes and pressures.

SUB SEA VEHICLES & STRUCTURAL SYNTACTIC PARTS

RADS structural syntactic foam is made from hollow glass microspheres and fibres suspended in an epoxy resin. The process by which these materials are combined ensures the product is homogeneous, with high compressive and tensile strengths. The additional strength makes it suitable for a broad range of applications, from core materials for composites through to large chassis for submersibles, ROVs and AUVs. Complex shapes can also be created that do not distort or crack under extreme hydrostatic pressure.

RADS structural syntactic has a low dielectric constant and can be formed in thick or thin cross-sections, making it suitable for radar covers, for submarine, maritime and aerospace applications.

RADS CABLE TERMINATIONS

RADS cable terminations are tailored to suit any subsea electrical, optical and–or mechanical cable type. This enables terminations for towed platforms, rosettes and remotely operated vehicles operating to 6,000M depths.

RADS innovative design prevents water passing through the cable in the event of a cable or pressure vessel failure. This provides increased protection for both expensive cables and connected electronics within the pressure vessel.
